On-the-move interview with Lionhead Monkey

The Miage Glacier is a debris-covered glacier in the upper Aosta Valley, in the northwest of Italy. It is situated on the southwest flank of the Mont Blanc massif. Lionhead Monkey and I did a 12.4km linear route to the glacier, with an accumulated height of 590m. The route starts at the last parking spot on the road that leads to the Refuge. While it is possible to drive further up, it is not legal to park further up from this point. The first part follows the road, where there is some car traffic (but very little). At one point the road becomes a gravel road. Close to the glacier lakes it’s the Refugio Combal, where it is possible to stay overnight, eat, and get drinks. Until the lakes, the path doesn’t have any technical difficulties (medium physical difficulty because of the accumulated elevation). However, for entering the Miage Glacier, it is important to have appropriate footwear and experience. The ground is very unstable and big rocks move and fall frequently.
